Under the pen name Tử Xuân – “Son of Spring” – Emperor Hàm Nghi infused his art with a deep nostalgia for his homeland and a timeless longing. Over the past 15 years, his paintings have surfaced in the French art market, primarily from private collections passed down by the friends to whom he once gifted his works. From there, Vietnamese collectors began rediscovering and bringing his paintings back home.
The “Trời, Non, Nước | Allusive Panorama” exhibition is more than just a gateway to the artistic legacy of an exiled emperor; it is a dialogue between past and present, where colors and brushstrokes revive the soul of an artist caught in the tides of history. For the first time, 21 invaluable paintings by Emperor Hàm Nghi, gathered from 10 private collections, will be showcased to the public from March 25 to April 6, 2025. This exhibition is the result of over a year of meticulous research, authentication, and international-standard restoration, led by curator Ace Lê and Lân Tinh Foundation, in collaboration with Dr. Amandine Dabat—the fifth-generation descendant of Emperor Hàm Nghi and top art institutions and partners from Vietnam and beyond.
